Wire Fraud

Type of Crime:
Fraud/Forgery
The Federal crime of wire fraud makes it unlawful for any person to devise a scheme to defraud or to transmit or cause to be transmitted by means of wire communication in interstate commerce any writings, signs, or signals for the purpose of executing such a scheme. The most common form of wire communication is the telephone; however, today, many cases involve the Internet. An individual may be charged with wire fraud if they have relied solely on the wire communication to commit the crime or simply used such a communication at any stage of the crime. If convicted of wire fraud, you may face a term of imprisonment of up to 30 years, a fine of up to $1,000,000, or both. Given the severe penalties resulting from a conviction for the Federal crime of wire fraud, it is highly recommended that you retain the services of a knowledgeable and experienced criminal defense attorney.
